EPGP League Rules

EL PASO GOLF PAGE

All rules open to interpretation; we will continue to add-to and adjust rules as deemed necessary by the League Board

FORMAT

Each event format will be posted in advance

Can be Stroke Play, match play, skins, scramble, or any other format approved by League Board members

USGA rules

1. A local course rules supersedes, i.e., maintenance sheds, bunker vs. “waste area,” “desert” rule, etc.

2. B and C Flight players have a max score of (double par, triple bogey, 8) on a given hole. In order to speed up play if max score is reached, including any penalty strokes, before the ball is holed, players shall pick up their ball and record max score on scorecard.

3. Weather/Pace of Play is a factor. In these instances, Event Admin will communicate to all players any changes or amendments for the day.

FLIGHTS

A Flight – 6 HCP and below
B Flight – 6.1 to 18 HCP
C Flight – 18.1 HCP and above
Senior Flight – Age 55+

LEAGUE HANDICAP (HCP) INDEX

– Last 5 rounds will be used to establish a player’s League HCP. After 5 rounds played only League scores will be used for index purposes
– Initial index will be set using verifiable GHIN or other methods approved by League Board
– Differentials (outliers) – Need to use the best 5 scores out of the last 10, etc.
– Players will be assigned event flight positions based on the current HCP index. Players may ONLY drop one flight during season (to prevent sandbagging, HCP manipulation, etc.)

MEMBER CONDUCT

– We’ll probably have to add on to this at some point in the future but let’s not be too stuffy or uptight for now. We’ve started this league as an outlet for enjoyment of all things golf. We know you care how you play, we care how we play as well, so we know frustrations are bound to be vented. Members should do their best to exhibit good sportsmanship and pride for themselves and the EPGP League.
– General golf etiquette is expected. Vulgarities, throwing clubs, misuse/damage of carts or other course property is in poor taste. The League Board reserves the right to investigate conduct violations and issue discipline, up to and including banishment.
– Dress Code – nothing official but keep it respectable and refer to course specific dress code.

TECHNOLOGY/GOLFER ASSISTANCE

If you think it makes you better, we think it makes you better. If it helps you enjoy the game more, then do it. Competitive edge? Sure!

PLEASE DO NOT LET ASSISTANCE SLOW DOWN PACE OF PLAY

– Caddies permitted
– GPS permitted
– Rangefinders with Slope permitted
– Green Reading books permitted
– Smartphone apps permitted
– RFID (Arccos, etc.) permitted
– BLUETOOTH SPEAKERS permitted. However, please confer with your playing partners and refrain from using if someone objects.

EVENT PROCEDURE

– Check in/Registration/Payment/Setup/Rules will be provided for each event.
– Cancellations and No-Shows are discouraged but inevitable. Upon the instance of Cancellation or No-Show the League Board will assess next steps. Any monies paid will be refunded unless the League is charged by the course for the cancellation/no-show
– Players should announce scores after each hole is completed. If electronic scoring is being used there should be one designated player in the group to enter scores. However, each player is encouraged to keep their own score (scorecard or personal smartphone app) separately as well.

  • In the instance of scoring discrepancies/disagreement, players are encouraged to work together to resolve issues appropriately. If a rules violation is in question, the player in question should play two balls, record two scores and a resolution will be determined after completion of round.
  • If there is a need to decide before continuing play, please contact Event Admin immediately.

Pace of Play

– Enjoyment of the game is paramount but to let everyone enjoy the game, it’s important to stay in position.
– Respect all Marshall/Ranger guidance and observe “READY GOLF” unless match setup (i.e., Match Play game) dictates otherwise. This applies to tee shots as well, if you did not have the best score on the previous hole but you’re ready to hit, let it rip! Common courtesy, however, is to let a birdie have honors (it is good for golf karma).
– Observe max score rule – if your max score on a hole is 8 and your ball is not in the hole after stroke 7 please pick up your ball (even if it’s not even on the green). You may also decide to take max score at any point during a hole (i.e., you have taken 2 penalty strokes on a par 4 and you are lying 6 and still 250 yards from the hole, just pick up and take your medicine).
– If a group is slowing down others, they will be given a warning (“on the clock”), penalties may be assessed for continued slow play.
– Players are encouraged to play a provisional ball if they believe their ball has gone into an area where it may be lost of out-of-bounds (OB) UNLESS local or Event rules dictate otherwise, i.e., “desert” rule is in effect.
